Setting

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time is primarily set in Swindon, England, however, towards the end of the book, the main character’s location switches to the capital of England, London. The story has many climaxes as well as downfalls, which has a lot to do with the setting. During the epilogue, main character Christopher decides to go on a journey by himself to London, where everything changes, and the whole setting of the surroundings makes him feel terrified and vulnerable. The plot is set in 1998, which can also be seen by the way technology has been used in the book. The story is set in the present because it is written as a diary, and the main character writes the point of view as a first-person narrative. In the book, Christopher writes about his personal life, and basically everything that he has on his mind. During the book, you can see that Christopher is more informed about the current problem in their family, and he is more and more willing to do something about it, which can also tell you that he has progressed his thinking throughout the book, even though he is autistic and can only reach a particular level of emotions and feelings.

Swindon is a large town within the Borough of Swindon and ceremonial country of Wiltshire, in South West England.
